Swarm Intelligence

Swarm Intelligence is one form of self organizing systems, the kind of systems we find in natural systems, in all kinds of levels, and include all kinds of interactions, either chemical, physical or biological. Now with the development of computer systems we can add the artificial as well, which represent our attempts to simulate these natural systems in robotics and computer intelligent systems. The self organizing systems are the kind of order emerged of the interactions between tectonics; as agents one to another and as an agent with the environment, to create a global order. Swarm intelligence  has kind of decentralized behavior where there no control govern the organizational structural system for each agent.

We have seen examples of SI ( Swarm Intelligence) in many natural organisms, such as bird flocking, fish schooling, ant and honey-bee colonies behaviors; In all these cases, less intelligent creatures, such like fish and bird, have interesting group behavior, which mainly used to protect the herd or swarm from predators, and give it the chance to breed and reproduce safely.

Applications of SI

There are a lot of benefits of using the swarm intelligence, researches reveal its benefits in military operations, guiding the mass of non-occupied machines, it also has large potentials in the medical research, including cancer treatment and nano robot’s operations, But the main uses of swarm now are concentrated in the area of computer science such like data mining or mobile network routing.

Swarm Intelligence in Architecture

In Architecture, there are many applications for the swarm intelligence, starting with the wide scale of the city, the swarm could be a useful tool for anticipating the problems and thresholds controlling a planning issue within urban boundaries, by simulating complex patterns of traffic and interactions between events. The SI is used intensively in Architecture simulation for buildings, such as, the crowd simulation as a reference for predicting the escape possibilities in cases of fire and other hazards.
